"It is no wonder that the Hollywood movie machine is likely to demand as their primary location the charming architectural character of Old Town Orange, when depicting Hometown America."

Emanating from the round-a-bout intersection of Glassell Street and Chapman Avenues is one of the most recognized vintage neighborhoods within Orange County. The center of this busy intersection is the circular Plaza Square Park , with a landmark fountain dating to the city's founding in the 1871.

According to A Tour of Old Towne Orange by Douglas Westfall, "First known as Richland, the town was laid out in 1871 by Alfred Beck Chapman and Andrew Glassell, two lawyers who received the land as payment for services. Whether or not the city is named for oranges is still undetermined, partially because the first orange trees didn't come to the area until the (mid) 1870's."

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the pioneer colony of about 1,200 homes has the 2nd largest collection of historical houses in California. One of Orange County first ˘well-planned÷ communities, Old Towne Orange has endured the passage of time as a graceful reminder of why so many ventured to Southern CaliforniaÓ and why they still do so today.
